The Story Behind Cursy Sites
From a Mini Cooper project to a Tailwind Killer—and the static site generator that proves it.
Backstory
In the beginning, there was the Mini-Cursy project—our ambitious plan to build a sports modded 2009–2012 Mini Cooper S with AI assist and many other cool features. A crowdfunding campaign was planned but we didn't go through with it due to our other pressing project developments, of which there were many at the time.
However, our co-Founder, Skully Cursival (Cursy is her namesake), created a simply astounding website—minicursy.com. The design was so amazing I proposed creating a CSS framework from the theme. She immediately did, but of course it was very limited.
Then I said, “Here's a challenge: why don't you work it into a... Tailwind Killer!” (Tailwind being her favourite CSS framework.) She accepted the challenge and a day later we had a 1900-line CSS framework that indeed had the potential to be a Tailwind competitor. We made a website for it on GitHub Pages and it lives there for posterity.
A few weeks later I posed, “Why don't we make an app with your CSS framework to prove its sheer power?” She was very excited at this prospect, and after much brainstorming we came upon the very meta concept: a static site creator whose app was skinned in CURSY CSS Framework, as well as the page layout editor and the exported sites. Cursy Sites!
